Lung Cancer Deaths- Non Smoking Causative Factors. Could you be at risk and not realize it?

We just lost a friend with no apparent life style factors for lung cancer. His doctors did not diagnose it correctly until too late, because of his lack of negative lifestyle and hereditary factors.  Our friend was a health nut, ate well, hiked, lived a healthy lifestyle but he is dead. His death started with a persistent cough that they thought was caused by a new heart medicine he was taking. As symptoms got worse, he was diagnosed with pneumonia but no x-ray was taken. Then he deteriorated quickly, was hospalized, then correctly diagnosed with Stage 5 lung cancer. Two weeks later he was dead.

If you research the lung disease factors, there was one factor they missed. He was a scientist who worked around chemicals and was surrounded by printers in his office. You may be at risk and not even realize it.

16,000 to 24,000 non-smoking lung cancer deaths occur per year in the US.   Most people are not aware of that figure with the many articles about smoking and second-hand smoke.  Most people feel they don’t have to worry about lung cancer because they live a healthy, smoke-free lifestyle.  These non-smoker deaths prove that this misconception is foolish and could cost you your life.

Please take time to visit my new article directory to read this article that could save your life.

Growing Moringa Trees Without a Greenhouse in Southern California

The second tallest tree in this picture has three tiny blooms. I was amazed this week. All these were started with the same seed, the same soil, the same growing conditions.  Seeds started in Feb in the house by a sunny window with a heat mat but no grow lights.

Can you grow a Moringa tree in your geographic area?

How do they grow without a greenhouse?

Moringa trees grow on their own time like wine.

I am not selling Moringa trees at present.  I am not selling them because of problems this year with their stubborn refusal to grow.  Most of the Moringa trees sold are grown in greenhouses with controlled humidity and temperature.  I decided not to grown mine in the greenhouse but grow them under the conditions that most people experience in their yards: temperatures, humidity and soil types that vary from day to day.  I hear stories all the time about trees bought straight from the greenhouse that die soon after purchase. My trees were in our simple, unheated greenhouse for a month. I did that to see if it would make a difference in the experiment. Read this blog to see the results of various changes on the trees.

The San Diego, California Story:

There are many micro climates in the San Diego area: mountain areas that get snow, coastal areas, inland areas and everything in between.

Spring Valley Area of San Diego, CA:

Our house is located in Spring Valley, inland from the city of San Diego, Ca. It is one of the most stable areas temp wise with mild winters. It gets very warm out here, even up to 104 at times. It does cool down at night here. When we moved here this past Dec, it was one of the warmest winters in San Diego history with little rain.

I started my trees in the house mid February with a heat mat but no grow lights. At the time we moved in, I needed to see what our electric bill would run without grow lights.  The first bill because of space heaters was $400.  It took us three months to get the bill down to normal which is about $100.  So the trees were started on a table in the living room by the big windows with grow mats.  The seeds sprouted beautifully, grew to about a foot and stopped.  Nothing I did made a difference in the house. Grow lights probably would have made a difference in the experiment but the electric bill was sky high already. A majority of people growing Moringa trees do not have a grow light set up. They use a sunny window to start out their veggie plants. The plants were getting lots of sun in the house.

Next I took them out to the simple greenhouse we had constructed.  It was either too hot or too cold. They did not grow there.  Left them there several weeks. Sprayed them everyday for humidity. Re-potted them in high quality potting soil with natural fertilizer and mulch. Tried several different things that did not work. They refused to grow and looked worse. The greenhouse was not temperature controlled and the area was not ideal for circulation with the vents.  Very few people have greenhouses with extensive lighting and venting systems like the professionals use.

After 4 weeks in that method, I took them outside to a corner of the house that received good sunshine. They did nothing out there.  In this area,  they got too hot in the containers. Even though I was frustrated, I refused to give up on them.  There were about 50 trees to begin with. Now I was down to 35.

About this same time, I gave some seeds to a woman who lives in the same area, was a master gardener, had extensive experience, and knew how to grow from seeds. I gave them to her as a control.

Was it the seed quality, was it Spring Valley, was it something I had done wrong, or another factor?

We had lived in this area before in the beginning of our business about 2009. I started out by growing the trees. There were no problems then. They grew like weeds.  In Stagecoach, Nevada where we moved to, I had started some trees that never did get to their full height.  Those trees just stopped growing at 5 feet. I thought then it was the Nevada climate lacking humidity and other factors ideal for their growth. Now I really wondered about the seed quality.   I had seeds from several sources and none did well in Nevada.  Moving back to San Diego, I thought would solve the problem.

The end of May, I finally moved them to the corner of our back patio where it was cooler, covered by some trees, with some sun.  They are in a very sheltered area. The kale is still growing in that area as well. It was much cooler in this new spot. I sprayed them everyday with water to keep the humidity up.  They did nothing there for several weeks.  So I just decided to keep them in that same spot to see what would happen when it got warmer.

About the end of June when it heated up, some of them began to grow. They got healthier looking, turned a beautiful green,  so that gave me hope.

Now it almost the end of July, and several are 3 feet high. Most of the others have grown some but not up to par. Some of them have not grown in this spot either. One has three blooms on it.  It is rapidly heating up here now that summer is setting in.  I am curious to see what the rest of these do. I am also going to plant some seeds this month for fun, just to see how they grow started in the warmer time period.

The lady whom I gave the seed to, did not get better results than I did up to the end of June.  I have to call her again.  I got calls in the area from two people during that same period who had purchased seed from other sources whose trees would not budge after about a foot or two of growth.

This summer is not over but just really starting,so  the complete conclusions are not in.  If all the trees grow by the end of summer, it was the temperature..  If only a few grow, it would suggest both seed quality and temperature.  I will post an update each month on the trees. I will not sell any of them unless I feel they are growing normally. The next three months will tell the complete story.

Growing Factors that affect Moringa trees and their health.

If you do not have a green house, your results growing Moringa will vary significantly according to climate, altitude, humidity, soil conditions, and sunlight.  If you live in Florida or Hawaii, the trees will grow like weeds. Those states have ideal growing conditions.  In other states, you will only be able to grow them in late summer until the first frost.  In some areas, they might not do do well at all. This is a tree that is normally grown in low altitudes, with humidity, warm weather, and lots of heat.  It must be planted in well draining soil that will not accumulate water during the winter. Plant in an area that has wind protection. Give it lots of room for its roots. They have a long tap root, so deeper is better. Over watering will kill the tree quick. It does need water during the early months. Give it organic soil and fertilizer.  Your experience in another area of San Diego may have completely different results. Seed quality may be at fault often in poor germination results. Seed rotting is another problem. Moringa seeds are high in protein so they mold easily.

This is the two brands I trust because they test their imported products for contamination, E-Coli, and heavy metals in a US lab.  I have now been using a number of their products for over two years including Moringa powder. DO NOT buy Moringa products unless the company states that they test for heavy metals and contamination. If you do you are risking your health. Two 'Quack' Alternative Therapies That Should Win AMA Approval

Today is my birthday and to celebrate the day, I am writing a special blog to honor turning 63. The two therapies for the subject of this blog are not on the list that the AMA will approve any time soon.

These "quack' therapies are not new but are really quite valuable. The therapies are not nearly as expensive as trips to your mental health specialist and can be practiced at home without a lot of equipment.

Both therapies are much safer than the prescription drugs that doctors prescribe.  There are no side effects to these therapies that will cause you to lose your job or make you drowsy.  They have only benefits for the patient.

What do you do when you have a bad day?

I had one yesterday where everything went wrong.  Did I drink a glass of wine? No, for me that gives me a headache.  Did I go on a shopping spree destroying our budget? No, I hate shopping.  Did I pop a Valium to calm my nerves?  For me, I just don't like the idea of addiction to anything including coffee.  Chocolate was once the addiction of choice. It isn't now.  So here is the first therapy to lighten your load when you have a rough day. The only restriction to this therapy is you must live outside city limits or in the country.

Quack Therapy #1:

Duck Therapy.........I am serious.

I discovered this valuable therapy by accident when I bought 9 baby ducks for the practical purpose of eating their eggs later. Once they got about 6 weeks old, we bought them a pool to play in.  They are located not too far away from our bedroom in the back yard. Every night, while doing the outside chores, I let them out. It amazes me the simple things in life that give them joy. They run to the door of their duck run anticipating me letting them out to forage.  Once the door is open, they stampede out in a group looking for bugs and weeds.  I let water run under the lemon tree, so that they have a water source to keep them out of trouble.  They all run over and sift in the mud for bugs and such. While they are entertained by that and a small kiddie pool outside, I go change their pool water inside. That is pumped out to the garden for my 'dirty water system.' One pump and a long, long hose and my garden gets valuable duck do nutrients that really make things grow.

While their pools are refilling, I sit down near their duck run and just watch them. They are simple creatures who just want to have fun in the water. They are very vocal, talking among themselves, on various topics that mean nothing.  That changes when they see the hawk fly over nearby. They all issue their 'Quack' warning and all run back into their pen or over to me for protection. This happens as well when they hear a sound that is unfamiliar or scary.  They are not brave. They will chase a little bird or a leaf that drifts down.  They explore every inch of their world trying everything including pieces of plastic or twine. You must 'duck proof' your yard. They are not the smartest creatures on the bird index but they are funny.  They love tomatoes. I have a bush that produces tiny tomatoes. I pick them a few, then throw them out of the ground. It becomes a free for all with ducks running everywhere to get the prized food treat.  Once they have had their play time, they go back to their pen for safety and the fun begins. Rather than explain how entertaining they are and how much they reduce my stress,

I present two videos.  The first one is my own ducks here at the house. The second one is off U-tube.  As you can see, they love the deeper water.  Now they have two big pools. How can you be sad watching these funny guys?

My  quack  therapists.

Quack Therapy #2:

Counting Your Blessings

This therapy is considered a 'quack" therapy by those that choose a negative view on life. It does not cause weight gain. It requires no equipment. It only requires you take time away from your frustrations to turn your day around. When you have a frustrating day, it is amazing how focusing on your blessings, the positive things in your life, turns your view around.  My husband, who is a great man and a wonderful husband, gave me a hug last night and told me how much I was a blessing to him and how much he loved me. No matter what happens in our life, his love is a huge plus that makes my life worthwhile.  I watch the hummingbirds at the feeders hanging off our porch and the finches who also suck the sweet nectar in the mornings.  I watch the Comfrey growing bigger every day. My kids call to tell me they miss me.  My newest grand child has two new teeth and is talking.  I have so much that is great in my life.

We all have struggles in our life that are thrown our way. We need to pause in the middle of a day or week that is not going well to dwell on all the beautiful things in our life, even if it just something simple as some beautiful marigolds blooming or ducks having fun in the water. Life in the end is a gift. Each day is a gift.  What you do with your days is your choice. You can either focus on the positive or the negative.  Turning your view toward the positive is much healthier. You will be happier doing that,  then letting the day get to you.

So all, that is my blog for today.  When life is not going my way, I seek out my duck therapists who tell me, " Don't worry about the 'quack' days in life, it will be quacking ok....just wait  ! " Their advice turns out to be exactly what I need to turn my frown into a smile.  Have a great weekend and God Bless all of you!

Moringa Oil: Learn About the Benefits for your Face and Skin, Oil now Avail in the Store

Announcing Moringa Oil in 4 ounce bottles is NOW Avail for Sale Here.  It is exceptional oil taken from seeds grown in Nicaragua. It is not organic certified as some of the products. I have sampled the oil for myself and I  am really loving it.  I do not buy much in skin care products, but 3 years in Nevada did not do my skin any favors. I have tried a couple of products but the cost was not worth the results plus they have questionable ingredients. I have been using the straight Moringa Oil on my face and neck and it does make a difference. It feels wonderful.  It is having a positive effect on lines and wrinkles.  I don't have a lot but they were showing age and living in a harsh climate.

Benefits of Using Moringa Oil for your Skin:

Moringa Oil – Luxurious Antioxidant Rich All-Natural Moisturizer

Pure moringa oil from nature's Miracle Tree is an ideal all-natural moisturizer for dry skin. This healing, topical treatment offers relief from sunburn and makes a perfect non-sticky massage oil. Moringa oil extracted from the seeds of the Moringa oleifera tree has been used in skin preparations and ointments since Egyptian times and is among the cosmetic industries most desired oils in the formulation of skin care products and cosmetics, chosen for its many antioxidants and documented skin-rejuvenating properties. In addition, many health and beauty experts consider Moringa oil the primary secret behind the healthy and radiant skin seen in Asia and Africa.

With an incredible oleic acid content of more than 70%, Moringa oil penetrates deep beneath the top layer allowing it to deliver vital nutrients to your aging skin. Moringa oil is rich in vitamin A , vitamin C, minerals, fatty acids, oleic (Omega 9) and behenic acids that allow it to be easily absorbed into your skin without feeling greasy and ensures your skin receives the food that it needs to repair and sustain itself.
Moringa oil can also be massaged into the hair and scalp delivering rejuvenating vitamins and minerals to the follicles of the hair and tissue of the scalp. The use of moringa oil on the hair and scalp can help reduce split ends and dandruff.

Argan oil is another popular plant oil produced from the kernels of the Argan tree. Although rich in nutritional compounds and essential fatty acids it is no match for moringa oil.

Moringa oil cosmetics are rich with cytokinins.  Cytokinins are plant hormones that promote cellular growth and delay the aging process by postponing the death of cells and destruction of tissues. The most potent cytokinin is zeatin. Moringa contains a hundredfold more zeatin than any other plant, making it a necessary part of any skin and hair care program.

What's Killing My Moringa Seedlings?

There are several things that can kill Moringa seedlings including too small a pot,  too much water and root rot.  Another huge problem is fungus gnats. If you see flying  gnats, you have their eggs in your houseplant or Moringa pot soil.  If you take the seedling out of the pot carefully, you will see there is little root left. Did they rot? If you have flying gnats, their tiny larvae probably ate the roots. The gnat larvae is so tiny, you may not even be able to see them without a magnifying glass.    Trust me, they are there.   One sign is that a healthy Moringa seedling will suddenly start to fall over.  That is because the tiny larvae are eating the roots it needs to grow.  The other seedlings may look fine next to it, so it is confusing.  Take the seedling out to see if it has roots or if the roots seem to be eaten.  It is pretty clear at that point. Gray rolly polly bugs are another one that eat the roots of young seedlings. Again if you see flying gnats, you have eggs in your potting soil.

Solution to Fungus Gnats:

Use the yellow sticky sheets to catch the adults.  I had to buy them online. I could not find anything but fly sheets in Home Depot or several other stores.  Fly sheets will not tray fungus gnats. They are drawn to the bright yellow color of the sticky sheets. You need to place them in and around your plants where you see them crawling or flying.  Go on Amazon and get the best deal on them.

Get Gnatrol on the internet.   I have tried sand, hydrogen peroxide and several things with little success.  I have also read that some people don't find success with this either but I feel it works better than some of the other methods suggested.  One reason customers may think Gnatrol does not work is because the larvae must eat it, then it starves them to death. You will see them moving after the liquid is applied and for some time later.

What is Gnatrol?

" Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) is actually a naturally occurring bacterium, common in some soils, that causes disease in certain insects, most notably leaf and needle feeding caterpillars. It was first discovered in the early 1900s.The French were the first to advocate using Bt in the garden and by the 1960s, Bacillus thuringiensis products were available on the open market and were readily embraced by the organic gardening community."  Read a great article on the subject here.  The excerpt was taken from this article.

Gnatrol must be used correctly to work:

Gnatrol  must be added to water to the right strength, then used as a drench on the plant. Drench means to soak the soil with the liquid.  It takes treatment every 5 days for several weeks to get them under control.

Gnatrol must be ingested by the gnat larvae. It affects their ability to eat the roots of your seedlings.  The larvae starve to death.  This takes time.  You will not see them killed immediately, so you may think it didn't work.

Try to let the soil dry out in between watering as well.  In the future, I am going to water in the Gnatrol before I plant the seedlings.

Well this is all for today.   Hope your weekend is restful.

What Common OTC Pain Medicine is Responsible for 56,000 Emergency Visits and Many Deaths? Find Out

It angers me when doctors downplay the side effects and deaths associated with over the counter medications and issue scare tactics over herbs.  There are numerous OTC drugs that are dangerous. If these same drugs were herbs with adverse reactions, they would be banned in an instant. But drugs get preferential treatment by the AMA and the FDA. They are allowed to remain on the shelves because of greed, money, and power. Drug companies carry clout and power. They manipulate your lives with this greed.

Here is one OTC drug that most of you have either taken or are taking now-Acetaminophen. It is found in many popular pain killing OTC medications such as Tylenol.

Here are facts about Acetaminophen that you should be aware of below:

Acetaminophen is responsible for over 100,000 calls to Poison Control Centers in the US.

Acetaminophen is the culprit in 56,000 emergency room visits, 2,600 hospitalizations, and over 458 deaths   due to acute liver failure.

Half of All the cases of liver failure in the US are due to Acetaminophen not alcohol abuse.

This drug is toxic to the liver even when taken correctly with label directions after several weeks.  This is when taken as prescribed, not as many patients take it...increasing the dosage because it is not working on their pain levels.

This is a quote below taken from Dr Mercola's article here. I encourage you read the whole article to have this really sink in.

"Taken over several days, as little as 25 percent above the maximum daily dose - or just two additional extra strength pills a day - has been reported to cause liver damage, according to the [Food and Drug Administration]. Taken all at once, a little less than four times the maximum daily dose can cause death...

If you are taking more than one drug that contains Acetaminophen, you are destroying your liver.  You need to look at the ingredients in your OTC and prescription drugs to see what of your medications contain Acetaminophen. Cold medications, Vicodin, and Percocet among others contain Acetaminophen.

Alcohol and Acetaminophen: A Prescription for Kidney Failure

Drink alcohol and Acetaminophen? This raises your risk for kidney failure 123 percent!   This is so even when the amount of alcohol is small.

NEW Warning Finally from the FDA.....It is about time!

The FDA has issued a statement in January of this year finally urging health professionals to discontinue prescribing and dispensing prescription combination drug products containing more than 325 mg of acetaminophen per dose. This drug has been on the marketplace for years. Each year the stats on deaths and visits to the emergency room go higher, yet it took them over 10 years to admit that it is a dangerous drug that does cause liver and kidney failure.

Do Not Rely on your doctor or the FDA to protect you!

That is why I write blogs against drugs and how the drug companies and doctors downplay their side effects and deaths. You need to realize that the FDA does not protect you until the evidence is so overwhelming, they cannot hide the evidence any more. The FDA is in bed with the drug companies. Money and power lies right in the middle of the FDA and their policies.  You must protect yourself...not rely on your doctor or the FDA to protect you. Doctors make money from the drug companies for prescribing medicine.  They are awarded huge sums of perks and money to prescribe medicines. They rely on drug salesmen to advise them on the drugs. They have no time to research it themselves. There are no studies on the effects of combining all sorts of drugs....the side effects that occur.  The more drugs you take, the more possible side effects from combining them.

This is all for today. Please read Dr. Mercola's article on Acetaminophen here. I have highlighted points from his article in this blog.

Learn How You May Be Contributing To the Death of Honeybees

Most of you know that honeybees are dying at alarming rates.  If this is not stopped, it will also mean our death since the majority of food plants are pollinated by bees.  You may reply, "What can I do? I'm not a farmer."  There is a lot you can do, so please read this blog. It is up to all of us to make sure our corner of the world is not contributing to the destruction of our environment and the creatures in it.

There is a big issue you may not be aware of. Since I learned this fact, I have changed my gardening habits.  Once you read this blog, I hope you decide to change yours as well.

Do you buy nursery plants from Lowe's, Home Depot, or any of the large chains?

Most of us have at one time or another. If you visit Home Depot, the place is full of consumers buying flowers and plants of every kind. So what's the problem?

These nursery plants are pretreated with deadly neonicotinoids.  These neonicotinoids are implicated in the die-off of bees. Research conducted by the Friends of the Earth and Pesticide Research Institute proved that 7 out of 13 garden plants purchased in stores like Lowe's and Home Depot contained neurotoxic pesticides known as neonicotinoids. This pesticide is manufactured by Bayer CropScience and Syngenta.  It is a synthetic pesticide and is being manufactured at an alarming rate. You will find this bee killing insecticide in many common products found at your local discount hardware and garden store.

What kind of pesticides are you using in your garden?

Several European countries, including France, Germany and Italy, have banned agricultural neonicotinoids. Bee Raisers in those countries sued these pesticide companies after suffering huge honey bee losses. It took the loss of these important bees to get the government in those countries to act.  The US government does not heed the warnings from Europe, even though the evidence is blatant.  They are being sold here as we speak.

It seems that backyard use of this pesticide is greater problem than in agriculture land, "“For homeowner use products, for backyard plants, the amount of neonicotinoids used is like 40 times greater than anything allowable in agricultural systems,” said entomologist James Frazier of Penn State University."

Backyard gardeners overuse pesticides like these often.  An excerpt is included below from an article on the problem of these pesticides and back yard overuse. In agriculture the pesticide is applied at 4mg per square foot of land. In backyard usage, that dosage can be applied at up to 250 mg to a three-gallon pot.  This equals a dose that is a killer to bees. How well do you adhere to the label directions when using these products?  Research shows that a high number of people do not follow directions properly.

"Not everyone may follow instructions, either. “Gardeners have no training in their use, and will often overdose,” said bee biologist Dave Goulson of Scotland’s University of Stirling, co-author of a recent paper on neonicotinoids and hive health. Goulson said in an e-mail that “gardens and fruit-growing areas are potentially interesting/bad.”

Read the full article here. It is very important that you realize what you may be doing to add to the problems of our honey bees.

Here is a partial list of products containing these pesticides in this article located here.

What can I do?

  • Write Lowe's and Home Depot that they should stop selling garden plants where this pesticide has been applied.
  • Stop buying garden plants from these stores and grow your own from organic seeds.  Try to support nursery stores that offer organic grown alternatives.
  • Grow flowers and vines in your yards that have not had this pesticide applied.
  • Use only organic pesticides that do not kill honeybees and other pollinators.
  • Check your garden products now and throw out the ones that contain harmful pesticides.

I hope this article alerts you to information that you need to know to help in the honey bee problem.
Thanks for reading.
