Love Eating Chicken Wings at Restaurants? Could be Rat Meat from China! Fish Fed Manure.

It seems San Francisco customs caught 300,000 pounds of chicken wings that were really rat meat. Rat meat is legal to be sold and eaten in China, but not to be imported here.  The problem is that they have no idea how many pounds of rat meat, disguised as chicken wings were not caught.  It seems that all this rat meat was headed to restaurants all across the country.  I kid you not...rat meat.

Customs says it is almost impossible to tell the difference when they add flavors, spices, and other taste enhancers.  So if your chicken wings seem a little odd tasting, maybe it is rat meat.  That should be a great deterrent for people who are trying to lose weight and love chicken wings.

The article did state, that there is nothing horrible about eating rat meat if properly cooked.

My question is where did the rats come from and how were they raised?  What were they fed? How were they processed?  How dirty was the processing plant? How much filth ended up in the food? That is my problem with China and other countries whose food is not tested here in the U.S.

Billions of pounds of different foods, meats, and spices are imported into this country from the country of origin such as China. Only a small percentage is checked due to lack of custom agents and really sneaky importers.

You have no idea if the imported food is safe to eat, including fish. Their fish is fed by chicken cages placed over the top of the fish tanks. The fish eat chicken droppings. This is the truth. We stopped eating any fish from China several years ago after we learned that, and we love Tilapia.  Most of your fish comes from China and those areas.  Read the labels and you will see that.

Read the articles below for yourself.

“At Chen Qiang’s tilapia farm in Yangjiang city in China’s Guangdong province, which borders Hong Kong, Chen feeds fish partly with feces from hundreds of pigs and geese. That practice is dangerous for American consumers, says Michael Doyle, director of the University of Georgia’s Center for Food Safety.

“The manure the Chinese use to feed fish is frequently contaminated with microbes like salmonella,” says Doyle, who has studied food borne diseases in China.

On a sweltering, overcast day in August, the smell of excrement is overpowering. After seeing dead fish on the surface, Chen, 45, wades barefoot into his murky pond to open a pipe that adds fresh water from a nearby canal. Exporters buy his fish to sell to U.S. companies.

So now you say, oh this is just a one time problem...Think Again! Read the quote below from a FDA study.  I keep telling you that you need to realize how adulterated food is in general.

" According to a 2014, FDA study, almost 36 million lbs. of illegal counterfeit meat is sold in the United States every years.

So readers, when I say the quality of our food is a crap shoot...I am very serious.

Make sure your meat or fish is grown and processed in America, even if you pay more for it.

Beat Colds and Flu Symptoms Naturally without Antibiotics

My husband and I don't get sick often but we did in January.  We were going through a lot of emotional pain dealing with his dad whose dementia is advancing to the case he really needs help. It does not help he is a retired commander who does not take help from anyone without a fight.  We have been distraught on how to get him help. So stress and emotional trauma is hard on the heart and immune system as well.  There are other factors that cause your immune system to crash including lack of steep, bad diet, depression, sadness, grief, heredity issues, and overworking. Just because every one at your job is sick, does not mean that you need to get sick. It is your immune system that keeps you healthy. You all know friends and family that is always sick or those who hardly get sick. The ones with healthy immune systems, get well faster.  So your immune system is your friend and extremely important to your well being.  That said, we all have a time when we come down with 'it' such as a sinus infection, cold, or flu.  So this is what we do when that happens.

#1:  At the first sign of that ache, abnormal sore throat, or just feeling off, we increase the Vitamin C. I don't believe in tablets because they are hard for the system to break down. We always buy capsules in all our choices for supplements. So we break out the Vitamin C.  In our family, we up the dosage to 1000 mg three to 4 times a day.  This is our regimen first.

Why not just drink more juice?  Juice contains lots of calories and sugar. Most juice does not contain enough Vitamin C to counter a flu attack.  You do need to drink water and liquids to help the kidneys excrete toxins.

We increase Vitamin A and D because these two vitamins help immunity. Zinc is another one that boots immunity. Zinc lozenges really help a sore throat.

Take Moringa to feed your immune system and to boost your nutrition, when it is under attack.  I take three Moringa caps, three times a day, when feeling like I am catching a bug. It really helps your energy level as well, during times like that.  If you use the powder, make a smoothie with grape juice and Moringa powder. Add to a smoothie or put it in yogurt or applesauce.

Lower your sugar intake. Sugar feeds bacteria and bugs.

Chicken Soup:  There is no veggie alternative to hot chicken soup infused with a huge amount of garlic and black pepper. Even most doctors agree that chicken soup is beneficial.  I really dump the garlic in.  Chicken broth helps to strengthen your system, when you have no appetite.

Rest, skip the meetings, skip the crowded areas, reduce stress, wash your hands frequently, and concentrate on getting back on your feet.  Give up any extra drains to your energy level such as a PTA meeting that could be skipped this one time.

#2:  We use a great immune formula, taking 2 caps, three to four times a day.  Many of the best immune system herbs are Chinese medicine with names a mile long that are difficult to pronounce. Here are the herbs found in our immune formula: Astaragalus, Reishi, Asian Ginseng root, Schisandra, Agaricus whole mushroom, Epimeidum leaf, Chinese Peony, Orange Peel, Liqustrum, Ophiopagan root, Poria, Rehmannia Concentrate. You will find different combinations of these herbs in your health food store labeled 'immune support' supplements.  The Immune 101 formula we have used for years, is from New Sun herbs based in North Carolina.  I don't sell their products because you can get them for the best price directly at their website. They do not sell their products on Amazon either. Their immune formula is exceptionally priced for families.

The most effective formulations contain several different Chinese herbs. I make sure that I buy this formula from New Sun, who tests the herbs for contamination and potency. Chinese herbs have some serious problems with contamination, heavy metals, and other unwanted ingredients. Do not buy cheap brands from companies that don't test their ingredients before they bottle them.  They should be manufactured from an American company, not the country of origin. The ethical companies get the bulk Chinese herbs in, test them to make sure they are the correct herbs and  for contamination such as heavy metals, dirt, insects, filth, and mouse parts.

The idea is too saturate the system with herbs that support immune function.  If you are coming down with a cold, boosting the immune system is very important.  Taking the supplement once a day is not sufficient.  If you look at antibiotics and their dosage, most of them are taken from two to three times a day, every son many hours. That is too keep the antibiotics in the system to kill off the bug.

Herbs need to be taken several times a day for the same reason.

NEVER take antibiotics and herbs at the same time. Make sure you take them fro 3 to 4 hours apart.  Herbs can potentiate or lower the effects of your antibiotics. Taking them together can cause more side effects as well.  It is best to do one or the other, not both.

Always take cold herbs until you are completely well, no symptoms, your energy is back, then add several days beyond that to boost your immune function further.

What herbs are considered supportive for immune response and have been shown to kill bacteria, viruses, and bugs?

Garlic, Goldenseal, and Oregano are my favorites.  We use liquid kyolic garlic to gargle with and to fight the bug. Then Goldenseal or Oregano capsules are taken several times a day as well.  You need to hit it hard in the beginning. The longer the bug settles into your system, the harder it is to stop it.

What is a Goldenseal / Echinacea chaser?

I use Goldenseal/Echinacea chasers more often than naught. I buy Goldenseal extract with Echinacea. I then add it to grape juice and take chasers several times a day. Just a quirt or a few drops is enough in 4 ounces of juice. I find chasers work more quickly than anything else. If your throat is sore, slosh the liquid around in your mouth for several minutes before you swallow it.  It does not taste good folks but not so bad in grape juice. It does not taste great in orange juice or apple juice. Grape juice is used to hide the flavor of unpleasant drugs or herbs.  With children use less and taste your chaser first. If too strong for your child or picky adult, dilute with more juice. The idea is to get the needed herbs taken one way or another.

Using Kyolic Garlic with colds, sore throats, and mouth infections.

I also use Kyolic garlic as a gargle as well. I slosh it around in my mouth, then swallow it. This works for mouth, teeth, or gum infections effectively.

Tea tree oil, several drops into some warm water makes a great healing gargle for sore throats or mouth infections as well. I do not swallow the tree oil gargle.  It is IMPORTANT to get food grade quality oils that have proper processing and grading. Some of the oils are inferior containing chemicals and contamination. That is why I only use Nature's Sunshine Oils found in my Nature's Sunshine Shop found here.

Garlic oil or Kyolic garlic can be rubbed into the soles of the feet when treating babies or children, to get the herbs into their system. This would also work on the elderly who may have lost their swallowing capacity. If you use Oregano oil, it must be diluted with a carrier oil, to avoid skin irritation.  Oregano oil is so strong that adding it to grape juice is still too much for most people. It is best to take Oregano capsules by mouth, not the essential oil in juice.

When using essential oils, use only two to three drops in the carrier oil. Essential oils are very strong, especially Oregano, which can cause skin irritation.

Liquid Kyolic garlic is also great to give pets who are sick. The liquid Kyolic garlic can be added to grape juice for children.  It does not make your breath smell which is valuable if you have to work while sick.

In the next blog I will talk about essential oils use in sinus infections and head colds.

All for today...keep well!

You will find the herbs I talk about in my Amazon Store so check it out here.... the herb companies found in the store are either companies I use and have researched or have at least investigated their quality. I do not promote brands that I know nothing about or have not researched myself. That is why I promote only one Moringa brand as well.

Tips on Germinating Moringa Seeds

 Buy Good Seed Stock

The first step as we discussed in this blog is to buy good seed stock.

You can read my article on buying seed stock here.

Each step is important to get good germination results. Moringa seeds are high in protein so are prone to mold on you. That is one of the main problems getting them started.

How many seeds should I germinate?

You need to germinate at least 10 seeds. You may lose several to mold or other problems. Ten  seeds should yield 5 seedlings or more.

You need at least 5 trees in the beginning because the trees take some time to where there is enough branches and leaves to supply your salad needs.  If all them grow, dry the extra leaves for your family or give any extra trees to friends.

How quickly will the seedlings grow?

Climate Area Condtions:  If you live in Florida or Hawaii, your trees will grow quickly by leaps and bounds. In Florida you will have a 6 ft tree the first season or even taller. They grow like weeds given the right climate area.

If you raise them in a heated green house, they will grow rapidly as well.

So where you live makes a huge difference in germination and your results in growing the trees.

If you live in areas subject to frost, the trees will have to be brought indoors for the winter. If you raise them in 20 to 33 gallon trash cans with wheels, you can wheel them into your house or garage when winter arrives in your area.  Amazon carries large, heavy duty plastic dishes to put under your trees to catch dirt or water leakage. They cost about $15 bucks on sale. Make sure you buy a large enough dish to fit under your planter.

When we grew them in Nevada in large trash cans, they grew to about 5 or 6 feet, then just stopped. I still had plenty of leaves to eat but they only grew to a certain point. I also had to supply moisture to the trees. This was so even when I took the trees outside and it was in the 90's.

Our Nevada trees

It is better to wait until it warms up to germinate seeds. They may germinate when the house is cold but then they don't grow properly.  Even using a heat mat and dome, the seedlings rapidly grow too tall to keep the dome on. If the room then is not warm enough or does not have enough sunlight, they will just not grow or they will grow very slowly.

Planting Moringa Seeds directly into the ground.

If you are going to grow them directly in the soil, you need to wait until all danger of frost is gone, when  your area soil warms up for good.  A abnormal cold spell will kill them.

You can either plant the seed directly into the soil or germinate them in the house by several different methods, then plant them into pots or ground later.

The ground area you pick for your Moringa tree should have good drainage. If not, you will lose the tree to root rot. The soil should have lots of organic material and organic fertilizer.  The area should have protection from the wind and from animals such as rabbits, chipmunks, ground squirrels,  and other animals who will eat your seedling as soon as it breaks ground.

You can soak the seeds first for several hours or plant them directly into a fertile hole. Again if you do not protect them, they will be eaten quickly.  I knew a man who planted several thousand seeds, only to find the birds were eating them as they sprouted up out of the soil.

If you are raising acres of trees, you plant them close together in a row.  They can be grown as a hedge of trees.

Germinating Moringa Seeds in the house, not directly in soil.

Handle Moringa Seedlings Gently when planting!

This is a plastic cake carrier container. They are a buck at the dollar store and come with a high dome to cover them with. This is what they look like. Not all seeds germinate on the same day. There can be several days difference in sprouting time.

#1:  Soak the seeds for a few hours

#2:  Pierce the shell around the seed gently with your fingernail. That will speed up the germination process.

Some literature suggests taking the seed out of the shell, planting the seed minus the seed shell,  but I have never had success with that method.

The Moringa seed will have two shoots that emerge from the seed. One is the white tap root and the other is the green Moringa seedling.  Plant the seed with the white tap root shoot down into the soil.  Don't break the white tap root!

Do not damage the white tap root when planting the seed.

Damaging the white tap root will kill the tree.

This seedling is ready to be transplanted to a one gallon pot or into a 20 gallon pot.
Handle the seedlings gently. Hold them by the green long part of the seedling.

Make the hole big enough so the tap root is not damaged when planting it. Fill in over the tap root gently. Plant so the seed and root are adequately covered with soil, but not too deep.

Moringa Methods for Germination

#1: Place the seeds in plastic sandwich bag, close the seal, and place in a warm dark area.  This is one method. Check the seeds everyday for mold. Take out moldy seeds immediately for they will cause all the seeds to mold if you leave them. Try to space out the seeds in the bag so they are not touching one another. I have found placing a moist paper towel under the seeds in the bag seems to help.

#2: You can take the seeds and directly plant them in one gallon pots filled with organic potting soil.  Don't buy potting soil with moisture enhancers. The soil does not dry out and you lose them from root rot.

Once they reach about a foot tall, they must be planted in larger containers or they will not grow taller. Their long tap root needs plenty of depth to grow into a large tree. The taller they grow, the harder it is to transplant them without damaging either the trunk or the root ball.

They can also be planted directly into a 20 gal container. Five trees can be planted into one 20 gal container.

Soaked seeds were planted directly into a 20 gal black container.

#3: You can take the seeds and plant them in germination  flats with individual cubes of coir seedling planting mix.  The flat is put over a warming mat to enhance their germination and covered with a dome.

These seeds were planted into seed flats with individual cells. There is a seed mat underneath.

These seeds were laid over a coir bed with a dome over them.

What is Coir?  It is a seed planting medium made from Coconuts.

"Coco coir is all-natural coconut fiber that is carbon rich and balances nitrogen-rich kitchen scraps in the compost pile and amends soil.  It's what makes up the fibrous husks of the inner shell of the coconut and is used for all sorts of products"

It works very well for Moringa Seedlings. You buy it in blocks on Amazon or in green house supply stores., You place the coir block in water, the block absorbs the water and expands,  becoming a fluffy potting mix.  Make sure you buy a fine grade of coir.

I hope this blog will help you grow many seedlings to provide your family with fresh leaves for salads and other dishes.

This is the two brands I trust because they test their imported products for contamination, E-Coli, and heavy metals in a US lab.  I have now been using a number of their products for over two years including Moringa powder. DO NOT buy Moringa products unless the company states that they test for heavy metals and contamination. If you do you are risking your health. Organic certified can still contain E-coli, dirt, bugs, weeds, filth and insects.  This is the way it is folks.
My #1 choice is Banyan Botanicals Organic Moringa Powder here

Moringa Seeds.  This is where I have bought them more recently and gotten good germination.
