FDA Will Move to Reclassify Herbs and Vitamins As Drugs....Act Now To Shop Them

You must get in your protests to the FDA NOW! Before Dec 1st!

In Dec the FDA will be moving forward to reclassify herbs as drugs. All vitamin and herb supplements will be affected. If you take vitamins or herbs, you will be affected.

If they do that, what herbs are cleared will increase in price. There are thousands of herbs and supplements that are not cleared. That means that many supplements and vitamins will be taken off the shelf.

You must do your part to let the FDA know you are against this.

They do not have your safety in mind. It has to door with the pharm companies and their push to control the herbal market place.

Right now this has already happened in Europe and it can happen here. The FDA is out of control. It is in bed with the drug companies...just look at the constant drug advertising on television.

Any supplement or vitamin introduced into the marketplace after 1994 will have to go through reams of paperwork and thousands of dollars to get cleared. They will have to prove with sales receipts and marketing material that they did sell their product before 1994. How many businesses have kept records back that far.

If the company changed the way they manufactured the supplement after 1994, which most have, they must go through the whole process.

You must show safety proof for 20 years......drugs only have to go through a few weeks to be be released to the why with herbs? It is one way to stop herb and vitamin formulations from being cleared.

This will effect all supplements including Fish Oil and Vit C....all of it. They are asking for manufacturers to give the same kind of proof that drug companies have to.....studies that cost billions of dollars. This is unnecessary and will put most companies out of business.  The reams of unnecessary paperwork and legal costs will kill most businesses. You must hire an expert to figure out how to comply with the pages of paperwork.

When its all said and done, you will be left with no alternative other than drugs that destroy the liver and will have no choice but to do that.....This is serious and they will go ahead with this in the new year.

They must be stopped. It is overreach by the FDA and will be used with bias as the case now.

With Citizens for Health supporters already having generated over 11,000 letters to Congress demanding that the FDA’s NDI (New Dietary Ingredient) Draft Guidance be withdrawn.

The organization is now on a mission to collect 10,000 petition signatures in 10 days calling for Congress to withhold FDA appropriations until this unaccountable agency is held to account: by adjuring the FDA to withdraw the supplement-killing NDI Guidance and to cease and desist from reviewing and enforcing against dietary supplements and nutritional ingredients according to its willfully adversarial re-interpretation of the laws governing dietary supplements.

There is a petition that needs 10,000 signatures to be presented to the FDA .

We need your help to make that happen below:

Please take time to watch the video listed Below:
To help us in this effort, Australian truth rapper and activist Jody Lloyd, aka Trillion, helped produce our video "10,000 Signatures" - view it here.

Being almost halfway to 10,000 signatures in a little more than 2 days means we can certainly reach our goal - but only with your participation!

As always, thanks for being involved,

Please go here to this FDA site listed below and send the FDA your view against this guidance directly! Write them....all of it!

It needs to be done now!

Although you can comment on any guidance at any time (see 21 CFR 10.115(g)(5)), to ensure that the agency considers your comment on this draft guidance before it begins work on the final version of the guidance, submit either electronic or written comments on the draft guidance within 90 days of publication in the Federal Register of the notice announcing the availability of the draft guidance.

A Sad Day....The First Hard Freeze

Hi Friends,

Well winter is here with the first two hard freezes. My huge tomato vines had thousands of baby tomatoes. I took off all the green tomatoes...big ones and cherries...and hung them up to see if they will still ripen inside. I saved about a hundred or so. I still have two tomato plants in the shed that were planted in trash cans. All the plants have survived in the shed. The Moringa trees have blooms on them. We will see what happens with those. I have mulched the trees with rabbit manure and hay to protect the main root. It has only gotten down to 28 outside. It does get down to 10 degrees or lower here, so we will see how the plants do in the shed as the temperatures drop. I am hoping they make it through. They have not lost their leaves yet but are not growing much. I water them about once a week.

My comfrey plants are hanging in there. I put tires over the plant, two high for protection. Then I am putting a glass window over the top with two sheets of 6 mil plastic over that. The leaves look frozen in the morning but have revived during the day. I will let you know how long I can save them with this method. I dug two up and put them in a huge the shed.....where I can open the shed doors to give them sun. I will transplant them back outside in the spring. I am trying to keep them with leaves for our rabbits to eat. The comfrey helps to keep them well. It is beneficial for their lungs and to avoid colds.

I have to say, I was really upset when they all froze. They were beautiful plants grown in the hay bales and I will miss them. The squash got it too. It had blooms as well. If there is a bright side, I will have less chores outside and more time for writing. I will hate having to buy store bought tomatoes. Our squash was great too. It is totally worth taking the trees and special plants into the shed. I love the trees and they add so much to our meals and life. The trash can method seems to be working well. The trunks on two are almost 2 inches thick. They are blooming even if it is late. They have given me continual leaves and pleasure.

Well must close for now. Have a great weekend and Halloween!

Moringa Leaves and its value in Cancer

Hi Friends,

There are many factors that contribute to the development of cancer: genetics, your job, your environment, your lifestyle habits such as smoking or drinking excessively, diet, exercise habits, immune system function, endocrine function, stress, and attitude. So all of these play a part in your health or lack of health. Some people are born with a real bad deck of cards genetically. But improving these factors will extend your life or extend the quality of your life. Some of these factors such as diet, exercise, smoking, and drinking we do have power over. We can make better choices that help us in our health goals. So look at the factors above to see which ones you can improve on. You have to really want better health enough to work on changing those bad habits.

Attitude and Longevity

Attitude may be one of the hardest to change in this grim economy. Often it is how you look at things. When we Moved to Mina, Nevada I hated it. I went from green to desert. All my dreams and goals for growing Moringa trees had to be altered and evaluated. It took me a month to see the beauty in the area and in our new life. I cried, screamed, and asked God why he sent us to this place. He was silent because he knew I was not ready to listen at that point. I needed an attitude adjustment. We are now here 6 months. It is a quiet life in this remote area. We do have lots of nice neighbors. There are almost no rules except to respect your neighbors rights and privacy. We have a huge area with a 20 by 60 shed that houses tools, our stored boxed, hay, area with light panels in the roof for my plants, and again no rules. We go shopping twice a month and learn to be self reliant when we need something we don't have. I enjoy the beauty of the peace and lack of traffic. I see the beauty now rather than the lack of services at times. We do have internet that is fast which is pretty important. So my attitude now is much better for my health and longevity. My positive attitude now helps my immune function and thyroid function. We may not be rich financially but we are rich in our heart. You realize how much you don't need when you have to drive 44 miles to buy it.

Moringa Leaves are just one part of a lifestyle that stimulates health. Moringa is part of an enriched organic diet leading to better health. That is why Ayurvedic doctors use it to prevent disease and malnutrition. There are some studies that are showing that Moringa does indeed have some remarkable properties.

Valuable Research on The Positive Effects on Moringa and Healing

The Alternative Action For African Development and Church World Services tested the power of Moringa Leaves with women who were pregnant or breast feeding and dying from starvation. The women tested recovered from their anemic states giving birth to healthier babies. The use of Moringa leaves improved the babies birth weights and health. You cannot blame the 'placebo affect' on this. Babies in the womb respond to nutrition or lack of nutrition. These babies responded to the addition of Moringa leaf powder with healthier weights and vigor. These babies were born healthier. The mothers produced a greater amount of breast milk that was of higher quality than women who were not given the Moringa leaves.

Moringa Leaves and Its Effect on HIV Patients

When projects gave Moringa leaves to weak HIV patients, they gained weight and strength. They were able to do more for themselves and the other HIV patients. It enhanced their ability to fight off the infections that come with the disease. They lived longer and with more quality because of their enhanced diet with Moringa leaves.

So Moringa will help a patient with cancer or serious disease to fight that disease. It will help their immune function and other systems to fight back. If it involves wasting away and losing weight, it will help counteract that.

In one research paper from India concludes that Moringa Leaves contain, "For example, specific components of Moringa preparations that have been reported to have hypo-tensive, anticancer, and antibacterial activity include 4-(4'-O-acetyl-α-L-rhamnopyranosyloxy)benzyl isothiocy-anate [1], 4-(α-L-rhamnopyranosyloxy)benzyl isothiocy-anate>".

It has been found useful in treating Prostate cancer, and with female cancers. There will be many more research studies on Moringa leaves in the future. Research is already proving what Ayurvedic doctors have known for hundreds of years.

Moringa Leaves should be part of an overall program for fighting cancer and serious disease holistically.

How Moringa Helps Diabetes Patients

We have been busy building our colony rabbit pen, moving the baby chicks out to their new home in our shed, and finishing their outside chicken yard for the future. These pens are completely enclosed since we have many birds of prey including crows.

Buy Exceptional Moringa leaf bulk powder, capsules, trees, and seeds here.

Our rabbits have a 10 by 20 space with cages for warmth. If they wish to hang out outside, they have a tree stump path up to their cages. The tree stumps give them exercise and something to do along with some cat toys.  They are litter trained so their cage area stayed clean. The material in the litter boxes is potting mix. Once it is enhanced with their manure, it gets taken out to the garden to amend the soil or to the red worms I am raising. The rabbits have room to kick up their feet. I have room to sit in there and just enjoy them. Not everyone would devote a carport to their rabbits but the carport was  inconvenient to use for our cars. The carport given them protection from the elements of this harsh climate. It had built in windows and and three complete walls which saved a lot of building time and money.

The picture below is the chicks inside pen where they will roost, come in to lay eggs, and eat. Right now they have a light and closed off area for warmth at night. Later on when they are bigger they will go out a door cut into the wall that leads into their huge chicken yard. Part of it has shade and half has sun to give them the elements to be healthy.

The yard is very spacious since we have the room. It will have 400 sq feet for the 28 chicks we bought. They will all be around 5 to 6 pounds when fully grown. I believe when at all possible to give animals space so they can live happily.

The Moringa Trees are doing well in our shed with some panels in the roof that let in warmth and sun. Even though the shed gets down to the low 40's, it is warm in the day and so the trees are still growing. It is extending their time to keep their leaves.

Moringa Leaves and Diabetes:

Many people have written me about using Moringa to control diabetes. There are two reasons why Moringa would help stabilize glucose. One of them being the amazing nutrition in the leaves. Many people with diabetes do not eat enough vegetables, salads, fiber, and high quality food. Moringa improves their nutrition which helps to build their health up. In India, Ayurvedic doctors use Moringa leaves to help prevent disease and improve nutrition for all age groups. It is especially great for those who are malnurished with compromised health and immune systems. Is there any research to back up its apparent positive effect on diabetes?

Several research projects using rats have shown that Moringa leaf powder contains polyphenols that have the effect of lowering sugar levels. Moringa also delays gastric emptying by the stomach which is important for the control of diabetes. If you wish to read one of these articles here is a link to the original research, Research article on Moringa and diabetes . I will give you links to new research as I find it.

There are quite a few research studies done in India. Moringa has been tested over hundreds of years by the Native people in India. Moringa is used by doctors in India. These doctors are educated just like our doctors except they use a combination of herbs and modern medicine together to give their patients the best of both worlds. Doctors from India are very skilled and effective. In El Centro, Ca where I used to live, we had a number of doctors from India. I took my daughter to one and I got treatment from another. I was impressed with the time they, themselves, spent with us. It was not the doctors assistant who took our patient history but the doctor himself. He listened, asked questions, conducted the exam and then made a diagnosis. They examined all of you for clues into your health problem including the mouth and tongue. There are all sorts of signs the body gives off when ill. These signs may effect your skin, hair, hands, fingernails, and tongue. They are great.

Well this is all for now.....Have a blessed week all of you.

Moringa Trees and Winter Weather

Winter, the Beginning is here in Mina Already:

We spent a few days dragging all the Moringa trees and other frost sensitive plants into our shed. It has several clear panels in the roof to let in sunshine. It is at 34 to 36 degrees most mornings. We will see how long they keep their leaves inside. The shed is not well insulated so it is still cold in there. There is an old metal barrel in the shed that was designed to heat the shed. We will see if it actually works. Its all an experiment.

Haybale Technique Was Successful and Easy To Maintain

We dug the one beautiful lavender in this hay bale out by gently pulling away the hay until we got to the roots. Its huge and it may not survive its transplant to a huge tub. Even if only some of it survives the move, I will have a starter plant in Spring.

The haybale garden worked beautifully with lots of abundant tomatoes and squash. I never had to weed or lose plants to little critters like rabbits or chipmunks. The Haybale technique saves your back, time, and really works well.  Then when the season is over, you have great mulch to spread around your trees and plants. The only problem is that next year we will have to buy the straw in Fallon which is two hours away. They don't sell it locally here. You must use fresh straw bales each season. The only thing that did not have much was the cucumber. I have not done well with those.

 Cold Frame from Free Windows

We were given two huge windows and we built a cold frame around one of the huge tomato plants planted out in one of the hay bales. The other two are two massive to cover. I will let you know how that works. I am hoping it extends our tomoto crop until Nov at least. There are at least 30 green tomatoes on the vine yet.

Closing for now.....great to be online again and getting back to writing. Have a great day and week!

Back Online Again

Hi Friends,

Well finally my computer got fixed by Dell. It almost took a miracle from God but now all works again. It turned out to be basically the motherboard, keyboard, and CD system. It is almost brand new. This week I will catch up with what is going on with all of it. I just wanted to let you know I am back up and running!

You Want Us To Come Where? to Fix Your Computer?

Since before labor day, this computer has had issues. The keyboard only works at times. It would not boot period for several days and then only part of the time. It was nasty. System restore made it worse.

I began calling Dell the Tuesday after Labor Day. They first said I must reinstall the operating system before they would replace any parts. I spent several days making sure all was copied to a memory card. Then when I called them back, they could not run the diagnostics all the way through, since the escape key and several others did not function. They did get far enough to determine that the keyboard was screwed up.

Then came a serious of phone calls where Dell said it was the techs fault, then later the tech tells me Dell did not want to pay the guys for the extra time. I would get transferred several times during each phone call. It was like that commercial on TV. I wanted to scream. It seems that the only service is from Reno and we are three hours one way to get here. So the full service charge equals 6 plus hours. Thank God it is on warranty still. It took a week for Dell to finally clear the extra money. Then after he leaves, I am required to reinstall the operating system, before further diagnostics can be finished. The computer has been awful, refusing to boot, refusing to change pages, and weird stuff happens on the pages. Isn't it the case, that today it is working better than in the past two weeks. It always works that way. So living in Mina has many advantages but a few down points. Getting a tech out here, requires an act of God almost. So that is why the lack of blog posts the past two weeks. I am getting this in, while I am waiting and while it is temporarily working.

I must Thank God we do have internet in a town that is less than 100 people. That is actually amazing and so one must be thank full for one's blessings. I have my rabbits in their colony pen and 25 baby chicks on their way. All of this is in our plan to be self sufficient. These baby chicks are investment in the future. We have to drive 44 miles to pick up groceries or eggs. These are the best breed for laying eggs in both heat and cold, for gentle personality, for hardiness, for meat/eggs, and for laying almost 360 eggs a year.

Since I had no computer to work on, we worked outside. We cleaned up the front of the lot from all the downed limbs and tree mess, we cleaned up the area around the back porch, and put up the flag my husband got for his birthday. There have been so much cleanup since we moved in, we had just gotten overwhelmed with the job. The place had not been lived in for years and all the trees were dead so had to be pulled down. It left a huge mess. Not having a 21 inch chain saw didn't help. How do you eat an elephant? One piece at a time. So now that it has cooled down some, we have started the job by sections. I also was given some iris bulbs, so made a raised bed around a young elm tree, planting the iris all around the young tree, and making a log border. It came out cute. I am using the rabbit manure to mulch all the areas. This soil is sand with volcanic layers about 6 inches down. Digging is a back breaker. Raised beds are the only way to go. So will get back to you when the computer is fixed and well again in a few days.  Have a good weekend!

Moringa- Update On Our Straw Bale Garden

Posted by PicasaWell its time for an update on my experimental straw bale garden.

We are getting a ton of tomatoes, and cucumbers. They have had no tomato horn worms yet or disease problems. I have had no weeding to do either. I am very well pleased with the results and the lack of work with this kind of garden. The lavender up in the top picture is absolutely beautiful. The squash plant which was planted late has lots of blooms. I grew these plants from seeds. The first plants were starters from a nursery and they did not take well in the bale. I have to say by the time I planted them, it was very hot. I will start all my plants from seeds next year. They popped very quickly in the bales. I love this kind of garden. I also notice that there are less insect problems as well. We have had a handful of grasshoppers but they don't seem to be doing much damage. You must really deeply water the bales once planted. That is extremely important. I will try beans and all the rest of the veggies next year in the bales.

My gogi berry bushes planted with hay bale edging also has survived. It looked doubtful for awhile but I notice they have blooms. Berries should come next. I have found that watering them deeply and spraying all the vines, not just the roots,  seems to help them. Next challenge is if they make it through the winter and come back in Spring. Each season here has its challenges. A man who is an expert told me that they should survive. I will mulch them well with straw to help them along.

The comfrey plant in the bales never did well. Normally you can't raise Comfrey in pots but I am going to try and raise two plants in a 33 gal trash can this winter.....keep it in the shed.  Comfrey send down deep roots and if you pot it, generally will die off. I am curious to see if the trash can is deep enough to work. The area where they are growing was doing well but the leaves are showing signs of iron deficiency so will give them some help on that this week. So far the comfrey plant is the only one that did not do well.

We have decided we may not stay here but will try to find a new place in spring. The winds here make it real hard to grow things. A nursery would be real work. There are two towns about an hour a way that are greener, have a river, and are agriculture areas. They grow hay and many crops. It would be much easier to try and raise herbs there. Their area contains 12,000 where this area has less than 100. So we are going to let go of the nursery idea here.  The winds were so bad this past spring that it is hard to tell how long a greenhouse would stay up. The soil here has a layer of lava rock a foot deep. It takes a huge amount of brawn to dig a hole. Most people here have a raised bed. That will take hauling in truck loads of soil amendments to do that. We have no shade on the property, so would have to build a shade house for many of them. We many change our mind but right now we are rethinking this area for a nursery.

I still am going ahead with buying the chickens and a Nigerian dwarf goat for milk. It is our plan to be self sufficient for the coming difficult times. We will not move if we cannot find the right place where we can grow herbs and have the livestock. We have our rabbits started now....3 Angora rabbits. My husband is building a second hutch. We are keeping them in a colony during the day and in the hutch at night for safety. They are really fun to watch. Their babies will give me fertilizer for my Moringa Trees, garden, and the earthworm beds. Their wool can be sold and you can eat them as well.  I may get a pair of New Zealand's for meat as well.

I know that some of you only think of rabbits as pets. Rabbits are often kept as just pets. Rabbits are also a farm animal used for food. We are setting up a homestead. Unless your are vegetarian, you are eating either chicken or beef. It is no different. If you raised a calf or sheep as the 4-H kids do, they will tell you how much they love their sheep or calf. The reality is though, they do become steak for someone. These three will not go for meat. They are my stock for the future. They have room to play and are fed very well. I spend time with them daily. Their babies will in some cases we sold for people who want their wool and to others who eat their own organic meat. The store bought meat these days is a toss up. The animals are fed hormones and antibiotics. They are fed Genetically M Corn and who know what else. Raising your own food and meat is the only real way you can know what you are eating for sure. It is only getting worse not better. You need to think about that folks.....the picture is not pretty. You are eating meat that was grown and housed in horrible tiny cages. Look at U-tube and how chickens are housed. It is very grim and nasty. You do not hesitate to eat chicken. Beef are also raised in grim pens. Hogs have it even worse. Most of your food is raised on huge farms with many thousands of animals. People just shut off their mind, while eating these foods. Eating your own raised food, you at least know they were kept humanely and fed properly. The meat was handled the right away. You know your animals were not sick or diseased. You know the quality of the food you raise. Its a choice of what you want to put into your body.

Moringa Leaves-Make Salad and a Green Drink Your Lunch

Hi Folks,

Do you have trouble fitting a salad and green drink into your schedule?

Our problem here is we end up working until it gets dark. Right now my husband is building a rabbit hutch and he often does not want to stop. I have trouble eating a salad then a main meal as well. Dinner ends up late and in a rush. I don't have time then to do all the salad cutting and prep. At breakfast if I drink a green drink, I am not hungry for a long time.

So now we do this.

Lunch is always a hearty salad with lettuce, Moringa leaves, grated carrots, cauliflower, cucumber, and tomatoes from the garden. We also have a green drink with Spirulina powder, green veggie powder, and Moringa leaf powder. The combination of the two gives a real pick me up for the rest of the day. I notice I have more energy when we do that. So try this. If you work, take the salad  in a small container and your drink in one as well. It in a real healthy way to avoid the afternoon crash. If you want more protein for lunch, add a sliced egg or grated cheese to the salad as well. You can make it either all vegetarian or a combination. It all works.

With lives so busy, you have to find out what works for you.

Bye for now,

Is It Safe To Buy Moringa Products from India

Hi Friends,

I have had two people email me this question. There is not an easy answer but I will give you the honest answer. The first consideration is quality. The second is FDA problems and customs problems. My experience will clarify the complexity of this answer.

Please go here to Protest S. 3002 where the FDA is trying in October to  reclassify herbs and supplements as drugs.

Is Ordering Moringa Products from India Safe?

Quality: There are many companies selling Moringa powder and caps from India. What they tell you on their website does not mean anything really. You need to contact the agencies that grant them their organic status if they are stating their products are organic.

Problems in Buying Certified Organic Moringa from India:

I investigated several companies that stated they were organic. When I asked for proof, they either didn't write back or said they didn't give out that information. One company was using a falsified organic certificate. I learned that the hard way by giving them an order, never hearing from them, then investigationg them through Europe, and finding out they were crooked. I lost $600.00 on that order.

The one company that did provide proof and were found to be legal by Lacon and NPOP, had no experience shipping to the United States.  I will tell you why that is important next.

The one company I did originally order from was Yelizir. They are Not orgainic certified. Their product, although not organic certified, does seem to be really quality product. I did not have the money to personally test the product at a lab. That is quite expensive. Most of my customers have called me to say the product seemed to really help them and have reordered. I have only personally taken their products.

What happened with the other company? This is the second part of the problem.....customs and FDA.

When I ordered Yelixir's products, they came by Fed Ex. Fed Ex has its own custom agents. I had no problem receiving my orders. Their labels and packaging are professional. They know what must be done to get their products through the FDA and Customs. My mistake was changing companies to try and buy organic certified.

The trouble with products from foreign countries:

When I ordered from the other company, they did not have the experience they professed, to ship to the US. Their labels were shoddy and unprofessional. The packaging was not tamper proof and not professional. They sent it by a regular shipper. It got flagged in customs and by the FDA for improper labels. The packaging was not tamper proof, so that sent up flags. They held it for purity samples. It was charged with improper labeling.

The worst problem was that the Indian company whose website url was listed on the packaging, made claims for its benefits for high blood pressure and diabetes. It had no import history so it was really given the treatment. In the end after weeks of waiting, it was rejected as an unapproved drug because of the claims made in India. I had the choice to return it under FDA supervision or destroy it under FDA supervision. I lost $1000 on that order.  I did finally get a refund from that company but it was a real nightmare. I only got the refund, because I had become friends with the head of Lacon in India. He put pressure on them for their shoddy labels. This company had A1 reviews from Lacon and from the lab that tested their product in India. Yet, their labels and packaging were shoddy.  So without any other leads in India for quality organic certified, I gave up on that.

FDA Red Tape:

Ordering Moringa or any other herb from a foreign country is a gamble. Even if its the most professional, quality product on the marketplace, the FDA or Customs can reject your order. There are thousands of rules for labels, bottles, product, and such that no company can keep track of them all. There are attorneys who specialize in helping companies make sure their product is up to code and who will fight the FDA to get a product released from their red tape. These lawyers only win 40 per cent of the time against the FDA. It can take many thousands of dollars and months to get your product cleared. The FDA will give you no real help to transverse the red tape. They tell you to hire an attorney. I went through all of this with one little package. I got no where with them. This is how they harass you out of business with red tape and charges. The FDA has a huge bias against supplements and herbs. It is all about profit and greed. As a company and importer you must pay huge fees to get your labels re-cleared. You must pay for inspections or problems they perceive. In the end most small companies give up for lack of money to fight them. This is why it is so important for you to protest S. 1310 this month. In October, the FDA is going to try to reclassify herbs and supplements like fish oil as drugs. That will give them the excuse to take off thousands of products and raise the price on the few they clear. You must stop this.

Bunnies and Livestock Love Eating Moringa Leaves

Hi Friends,

The picture above shows are new Angora bunnies, clipped, in their colony pen. They get logs, cardboard, egg carton, and such to play with. They are put into a large cage at night, to keep them safe from feral cats and other wildlife. They have all day to get exercise and play. I decided to go with colony breeding this time around.

We went down to San Diego for a combination birthday, anniversary, his fathers birthday, and more. We had a great time with too much to do in too little time. I love San Diego but the traffic and frantic pace was stressful. It has been a few days since my last blog for that reason. I had no computer access or time while visiting down there. I must say I don't miss much of San Diego except for the family we have there. Even though its greener, the water cost and restrictions make it almost impossible to grow much. We have a water bill of $39.00 for over 8000 gallons of water. There is would be $100 bucks or more. We would also have the water police on our back.  So there are advantages to living in the middle of the Nevada desert. Even our electric bill including the use of several fans and a swamp cooler is only $80.00 bucks. That is not bad. The nights are cool here, not hot as in Imperial Valley, Ca or much of Arizona. We have few rules here so I can have chickens and a goat in town. We stop in the middle of town to chat....the few cars that pass just go around you. We have not seen a dog pound truck yet. Life is simple but so is the stress. Our rent here averages $400 a month, so what does yours cost you. Its a nice place to retire and have some peace. This is some of the reason why we are here in this tiny little town of wonderful people. One of the things on the list to do in San Diego, is add to our family here. In our plan to be self-sufficient, is to raise rabbits, chickens, and a milk goat or two. Rabbits ended up the first livestock to add to our homestead here.

I have fallen in love with angora rabbits. I have had rabbits in the past but not Angora rabbits. I raised Lops and New Zealands before. These new ones are young but not little babies. I have not raised rabbits for a few years so felt I should refresh my memory and information. They now stress to feed them dried grass, fresh veggies, and a more nature-based diet, not just pellets.

Since there is no grass in Mina being the desert, I decided to try the bunnies on Moringa leaves. Its heavy in nutrition and I have lots of leaves to share with them. Sure enough they munched them right down. I still give them carrots and hay but the rest is Comfrey and Moringa leaves. This does save money and I dare say will create super-healthy bunnies. Their droppings go right  back as fertilizer for the trees and the garden. On top of that, I can sell their wool later on Ebay. You can eat their offspring if you wish as well.

Moringa leaves has been used for animal fodder in the areas that grow the trees. They use them to feed cows and goats. Since I will be getting a milk goat later, they too will get Moringa leaves to enhance their health and milk quality. A milk goats feeding requirements to give great milk, is high quality hay and grain. Junk food equals milk that does not taste good. So for those of you with other livestock, give them Moringa leaves. That would include pets such as rats, mice, ferrets, and other small pets. Give them a small sample first to let their digestive tracks get used to the new greens. I have not tried them on horses but we have friends with both horses and mules, so will try them out. I will let you know how they like them.

Will close for now...have a great week......Kate, the Herbladyisin

Is Caffeoylquinic Acid Related To Caffeine

Hi Folks,

I had a reader write me that Moringa has caffeoyquinic acid in it and is that related to caffeine?

No, it is not related to caffeine.

It is an antioxidant that is very hard to explain simply. The scientific explanation is given below. Usually I can break answers down but this one is really above my head other than it helps oxidative stress of cells.  It helps prevent vascular diseases. That is why Indian doctors use it to prevent high blood pressure and diabetes.

The reason Moringa makes you feel so good is all the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants found in the leaves. It is an amazing food source.

The scientific explanation is listed below:

"We previously reported 3,4-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid (CQC) protected vascular endothelial cells against oxidative stress and restored impaired endothelium-dependent vasodilatation.

Here, we further investigated its anti-atherosclerotic effect against angiotensin II (Ang II) evoked proliferation and migration of cultured rat vascular smooth muscle cells (rVSMC). The results showed CQC (1–20 μM) clearly inhibited Ang-II-stimulated BrdU incorporation and cell migration of rVSMC in a concentration-dependent manner but without significant cytotoxicity. Western blot analysis revealed Ang II increased the phosphorylation levels of Akt and mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs;p38, ERK1/2 and JNK) in rVSMC. In the presence of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) inhibitor wortmannin and three individual MAPK inhibitors SB203580, PD98059 and SP600125, both Ang-II-induced cell proliferation and migration were significantly attenuated, although to differing extents, suggesting the PI3K and MAPK signal pathways all participated in regulating rVSMC proliferation and migration. Also, the CQC pretreatment markedly suppressed Ang-II-induced phosphorylation of Akt and JNK rather than ERK1/2, although it failed to affect p38 phosphorylation. In conclusion, our data demonstrate CQC may act by down-regulating Akt, JNK and part of the ERK1/2 pathways to inhibit Ang-II-induced rVSMC proliferation and migration. The anti-atherosclerotic effect of CQC is achieved either by endothelial cells protection or by VSMC proliferation/migration inhibition, suggesting this compound may be useful in preventing vascular diseases."

What this antioxidant is.

Read This now....You May Lose Your Access to Buy Moringa Leaves and Powder-Please read this

Hi Folks,

Some of you folks are only reading the posts on Moringa.
I realize why you are not.

Your access to Moringa, herbs, vitamins, and supplements is now threatened and in serious danger.

You had better realize why you need to read my other posts especially the one listed below on what the FDA is trying to do to stop your access to herbs and Moringa leaves!

The FDA and Customs controls what foods, herbs, and supplements you have access too.

Moringa leaves may be a food but is advertised on websites as a prevention for disease.

Indian doctors use it to help prevent diabetes and high blood pressure.

This is fine in India to do this. Indian doctors use herbal medicine and preventive medicine.

Here those same usage claims are illegal and will incur the FDA Wrath and punishments. Here it is against the law to tell how an herb can help a health problem. You cannot list it on the herb package or in the advertising in most cases. This is true even when there are double blind studies to prove the claim. It does not matter that herbal medicine is used by doctors in many countries. It does not matter that there are hundreds of good double-blind research studies to back up a claim from many different countries. All of this is discounted period. The FDA and AMA are in bed with the drug companies. They have been bought out by the money and power the drug companies possess. This is the truth of what is happening. You need to realize that the FDA and AMA is fraught with corruption and greed.

Here is the US, those true claims put it in a new classification.... a drug which is unregulated.

This means the FDA have the right to take it off the shelves, no matter where it is grown. They can make it illegal to buy it.

In September if you don't step up and protest this, Moringa leaves may be unavailable unless you grow your own trees. This is a real serious threat to our freedoms here.

You need to write letters to your representatives against S. 1310, the FDA, and Obama.

IF you don't stop this it will be put into effect. Thousands of supplements including Moringa leaves will not be sold according to the new law. So read the FDA post I have put on this blog and act. We are losing our rights every year, because we fail to even try to act against the government. Are you going to sit back and watch Moringa leaves be taken out of the marketplace? Read the FDA blog on this site.

I post this hoping some of you actually read this and the FDA post...then do your part to stop them.

The FDA and Senator Durbin’s latest attack against the dietary supplement industry should leave consumers for natural health options at affordable prices up in arms. This attack will target some of the most popular and effective dietary supplements, removing them from the free market and placing them under control of large pharmaceutical companies. This move will drastically drive up the price of dietary supplements while severely limiting access to extremely safe and effective nutrients. For example, the GlaxoSmithKline prescription drug version of DHA fish oil (at a therapeutic dose) sells for $189 a month, whereas the equivalent, therapeutic amount of molecularly-distilled DHA sells for $35 a month in the dietary supplement marketplace. Proven to lower triglyceride levels at therapeutic amounts, it is not surprising that DHA is one of the first nutrients the FDA plans to go after. Other powerful nutrients, such as curcumin and resveratrol, are soon to follow.
This is the second article in what will be a series of articles on this critical topic. In my first article, “Senator Durbin & the FDA Viciously Attack Dietary Supplements,” I outlined the scope and nature of the attack and called readers to take action. And it is still critically important that you do take action, so please visit the TAKE ACTION page immediately following reading this article.
The newly-proposed FDA regulations are complicated. We are just beginning to understand the full scope of their ploy. The FDA is hoping that the complexity of their regulations will confuse consumers so they do not understand the coming changes and resulting repercussions. It is my job to give you some concrete examples of how this will affect you.
It is not just DHA, curcumin and resveratrol that are slated for pharmaceutical industry takeover, hundreds of other nutrients and herbs are at risk. The unfortunate reality is if the FDA is allowed to carry out their illegal strategy then thousands of products currently on the market are likely to be deemed “misbranded drugs” and forced off the market under the FDA’s criminal campaign to wipe out an industry, and ultimately gain even greater power and profit.
The Pharmaceutical Industry’s Perfect Storm of Economic Collapse
Mapping the human genome was supposed to usher in the next generation of pharmaceutical “wonder” drugs. Scientists would identify a gene or set of genes causing each and every disease. New biotech drugs operating at the genetic level would fix the problems or compensate for them, ushering in “The Golden Age of Cures” and reaping huge 21st century profits for the pharmaceutical conglomerate.
This wishful thinking is not the case. Their first biotech drugs have caused more death and injury than benefit. At the same time, rapid advancements in tools to analyze gene function made it obvious that Mother Nature already provided a treasure trove of potential golden cures—natural, safe and effective substances already widely utilized in the dietary supplement industry.
Multiple circumstances threaten hundreds of billions in drug company profits. Their pipeline of new drugs with widespread consumer application is scant, as they gamble their future on dangerous biotech drugs with limited use. Hundreds of their top-selling drugs are losing patent protection in the next few years, exposing them to generic competitors and massively driving down inflated profits. Widely-publicized adverse side effects and unnecessary deaths caused by many commonly-used pharmaceutical drugs have cast suspicion over their entire industry.
On the political front, Congress is looking for ways to control health care costs, even suggesting incentives for making people well—a far different tune than paying for lifetime drug prescriptions that seldom improve health. In fact, the gene science is actually proving that Western Medicine’s drugs are damaging the human genome and are a significant cause in the onset of many of the diseases of aging—the very diseases they are pretending to treat.
Pharmaceutical companies define their primary assets as patent-protected drugs, giving the drug 15 to 20 years of product sales with no competition. It is vital for them to figure out a strategy to turn dietary supplement ingredients, especially those that could be used for type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, depression, Alzheimer’s, and cancer treatment into drug company “assets,” eliminating from the free market many of the most helpful dietary supplement ingredients while drastically driving up prices for consumers.
The Poison-Dispensing Era of Western Medicine
Until the advent of the new gene-regulating drugs, virtually all medications worked on the principle of poisoning the function of a cell or enzyme system to hopefully produce a change that the doctor thinks “beneficial.” If taking a drug results in a better-looking blood sugar, blood pressure, or cholesterol number, then doctors automatically assume the person is healthier. Rather, health has nothing to do with it. It is in the financial interests of drug companies to dispense more and more drugs, on an ongoing basis.
There is a night-and-day difference in quality of health between a person who has good numbers because they are healthy and a person who has reasonably-looking numbers because they are poisoned with drugs. Studies using high doses of metabolic and cardiovascular drugs to attempt to drive numbers down to the levels of healthy people invariably injure and even kill the participants—clearly failing to improve health quality and extend lifespan.
To make matters worse, the pharmaceutical industry fraudulently hides the actual risks of the drugs from both patients and doctors. This includes slanting, to blatantly falsifying, studies routinely published in medical journals and used for marketing, illegally promoting off-label use of drugs, using funding to bribe research universities to publish only favorable results and blacklisting researchers who refuse to accept, and paying influential doctors to present their data as independent research at medical meetings.
The scope and magnitude of the drug safety issue is a nightmare. In 2006 the Institute of Medicine (IOM) conducted interviews with FDA management and hundreds of FDA employees to ascertain issues leading to drug safety problems. Widespread conflict of interest and many other issues led IOM investigators to label FDA management as dysfunctional. Little has changed.
The Gene-Experimentation Era of Western Medicine
The human body is no slouch when it comes to elaborate complexity. It is often the case that the same exact gene signal is “good” or “bad” depending on the context in which it is activated. In fact, the same genes often behave differently in different areas of the body. Unlike earlier toxic drugs that force cell and enzyme behavior at a rather crude level, biotech drugs turn gene signals “on” or “off” at a powerfully fundamental level of cell function. Unfortunately for consumers, our understanding of genes is in its infancy. There is daunting complexity in gene regulation, making use of any gene-regulating drug highly questionable.
One example of this problem involves diabetes drugs Avandia and Actos, which turn on the gene PPAR gamma. This gene signal helps to break down triglycerides. These drugs also stimulate the formation of new fat cells, which are more metabolically fit and therefore produce more adiponectin that stops insulin resistance. Thus, in theory, they are potentially great drugs for lowering triglycerides and benefiting people with type 2 diabetes. As these drugs became blockbusters it was soon observed that the patients taking them were experiencing devastating side effects. These drugs have no way to know the context in which they should be operating. They activate PPAR gamma in the wrong places, such as the heart, leading to a 40 percent increased risk for heart failure or heart attack. Additionally, inappropriate PPAR gamma activation in bones causes them to break more easily.
The FDA rushed these drugs to market despite the objections of its own safety supervisor who wanted employ a black box warning for heart failure. In other words, the FDA knew about the risks but prevented the public from understanding them, and still allowed the drugs to go to market. This was a major scandal at the FDA. The FDA has finally restricted Avandia, but Actos remains available in full swing. Actos has recently been highly restricted in Europe, but in America, the FDA continues to drag its feet. This is likely because the FDA has mud on its face for approving these biotech nightmares in the first place and would rather consumers suffer injury and even die than look bad. The mainstream media fails to aggressively report on or investigate this tragic issue as they are large recipients of drug company advertising dollars. Even when one of their own, Tim Russert, was likely killed by Avandia or Actos, they turned a blind eye.
DHA is a Superior and Intelligent Gene-Regulating Nutrient
The plot thickens. Nature’s nutrient DHA, typically in fish oil, is a powerful activator of PPAR gamma, helping to break down triglycerides as well as make new metabolically-fit fat cells that boost adiponectin and help fight type 2 diabetes—the exact objectives of Big Pharma’s Avandia and Actos. DHA is a near-miracle nutrient for the heart and overall cardiovascular health and also supports strong bones. It has all of the benefits of Avandia and Actos and none of the side effects.
And this is why Big Pharma is so interested in taking over many dietary supplement ingredients. The nutrients know how to work in harmony with gene function in the human body, since nutrition was a key part of human evolution. These nutrients appear to have inherent intelligence that no drug could possibly have. They understand the context of the gene signal and thus support the beneficial gene activity. They know how to behave differently in different areas of the body to promote healthy function at every turn.
Under the FDA’s new draft guidance that redefines the 1994 Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA), the FDA targets many nutrients for elimination from the market, and DHA is one of them. DHA is a component of fish oil, which is a pre-DSHEA nutrient. This means that it should be grandfathered in and not subjected to the newly-published New Dietary Ingredient (NDI) guidelines.
Various companies have been able to concentrate the DHA as well as remove toxins from the oil, enabling consumers to take higher amounts of the most important ingredient in fish oil. Consumers can now easily and safely reach doses of DHA that are consistent with studies showing extreme health benefit. Such doses of DHA are known to be safe, have been tested in clinical trials sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and are consistent with the amounts consumed by people who regularly eat fish.
The FDA’s point man on NDI guidance issues, Daniel Fabricant, has been telling the supplement industry what to expect. In a recent webinar he was asked, “Should it be necessary to submit an NDI notification over a small change in the ratios of the long chain omega-3 fatty acids EPA to DHA in one fish oil supplement versus another? Is this really a big safety issue?” Shockingly, Fabricant responded “If it is a different ingredient, a different chemical entity, then it should trigger an NDI notification.”
Fabricant is saying that any modification of basic fish oil should trigger an NDI notification. This is utter nonsense, but it is exactly what the FDA is attempting to do. What Fabricant did not bother to say to the supplement industry webinar audience was that an NDI application for modified fish oil would be denied, since GlaxoSmithKline already has a fish oil prescription drug on the market called Lovaza. Again, shocking.
Yes, the new guidance document makes it clear that if an existing drug contains any form of the nutrient DHA, a NDI will not be allowed (section IV.C.8-11). In other words, if modified DHA did not require an NDI notification, it qualified as a grandfathered nutrient, an obvious part of fish oil. But if the FDA decides that the newly manufactured form of the nutrient, in this case DHA, is different than its typical concentration in food, it can require that nutrient to have an NDI notification. By retroactively applying this definition to nutrients that compete with drug applications, that nutrient will automatically be denied NDI status. As of now, this is the intended fate of DHA. It is gravely unfortunate, as DHA is one of the most beneficial and effective nutrients offered by the dietary supplement industry.
This is a blatant power play to hand the entire high-grade DHA market to GlaxoSmithKline, one of the largest drug companies in the world. Lovaza already costs five to seven times what a similar amount of high-grade DHA costs—imagine how high their price will go up when there is no competition.
The Rise of Epigenetics
The new frontier of science is the field of epigenetics. A true genetic change means there is a change in the DNA sequence. Epigenetics explains factors that are not such DNA changes. Rather, epigenetic changes relate to how genes are expressed. Some are set in response to early environmental influences such as prenatal malnutrition or nutrient deficiency. As cells split and divide, however, epigenetic factors play a large role in determining life-long human health and are strongly linked to poor health and the onset of disease. Epigenetic weaknesses magnify during aging and are major factors in the cause of cancer, heart disease, neurological and cognitive disorders, obesity, diabetes, infertility and sexual dysfunction.
This new science is finding that when toxins interfere with the human genome, they can cause lasting damage in the form of adverse epigenetic changes which can occur at any point in one’s life. This is not simply an issue of pollution. Researchers are now demonstrating that regular use of many drugs can cause adverse toxic epigenetic changes, a finding that has alarming implications today’s medical practices. Up to this point in time, drug safety has not involved studying the impact of any drug on epigenetics. Science now has the ability to see what is going on in this realm. The pharmaceutical industry and the FDA, unsurprisingly, have no interest in understanding and considering this new, ground-breaking information as the public would significantly reduce their intake of drugs.
On the hand, research on dietary ingredients is showing them to be powerful regulators of epigenetics and some show extreme promise for helping to treat metabolic disease and even cancer. Nutrients are showing that they possess “intelligence” and are able to tell the difference between a stressed and struggling cell (one with epigenetic weaknesses) and a cell with cancer. In the case of the stressed cell, the nutrients can fix it. In the case of the cancerous cell, the exact same nutrient can actually help kill the cancer without any adverse side effects—even overcoming mechanisms that make cancer resistant to drug treatments. Two of the very best nutrients in this category are curcumin and resveratrol, making them potential prizes for the pharmaceutical industry.
As I reported in my recent article, “Curcumin Helps Change Gene Function to Combat Cancer,” curcumin and resveratrol are under extensive genetic study at the MD Anderson Cancer Center. Regarding cancer, these researchers are at the forefront of all things drug and biotech. The last commissioner of the FDA, Andrew von Eschenbach, was in charge at the MD Anderson Cancer Center before joining the FDA. Researchers at the MD Anderson Cancer Center are practically drooling over the virtues of curcumin and resveratrol. Some quotes from their recent study include the following:
Recently, natural compounds, such as curcumin, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), and resveratrol, have been shown to alter epigenetic mechanisms, which may lead to increased sensitivity of cancer cells to conventional agents and thus inhibition of tumor growth. Curcumin (diferuloylmethane), a yellow spice and the active component of the perennial herb Curcuma longa, commonly known as turmeric, is one of the most powerful and promising chemo-preventive and anticancer agents, and epidemiological evidence demonstrates that people who incorporate high doses of this spice in their diets have a lower incidence of cancer. Furthermore, epidemiological evidence exists indicating that there is a correlation between increased dietary intake of antioxidants and a lower incidence of morbidity and mortality…. How curcumin exerts its powerful anticancer activities has been thoroughly investigated, and several mechanisms of action have been discovered…. curcumin exerts its biological activities through epigenetic modulation.
Extensive research over the past five decades has indicated that curcumin reduces blood cholesterol levels; prevents low-density lipoprotein oxidation; inhibits platelet aggregation; suppresses thrombosis and myocardial infarction; suppresses symptoms associated with type II diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and Alzheimer disease; inhibits HIV replication; suppresses tumor formation; enhances wound healing; protects against liver injury; increases bile secretion; protects against cataract formation; and protects against pulmonary toxicity and fibrosis. These divergent effects of curcumin seem to depend on its pleiotropic molecular effects, including the regulation of signal transduction pathways, and direct modulation of several enzymatic activities. Most of these signaling cascades lead to the activation of transcription factors.
Interest in the effects of dietary compounds such as resveratrol which activate class III HDACs (sirtuins) is growing rapidly because of their demonstrable role in extending lifespan and in reducing, or delaying, age-related diseases including cancers…. Resveratrol, a natural compound found in the skin of red grapes and a constituent of red wine, is believed to play a significant role in the reduction of cardiovascular events. Multiple studies have shown that resveratrol can activate sirtuin 1 (SIRT1), a histone deacetylase, and inhibit p300. Sirtuins, the class III HDACs, are widely distributed and have been shown to regulate a variety of physiopathologic processes, such as inflammation, cellular senescence and aging, cellular apoptosis and proliferation, differentiation, metabolism, stem cell pluri-potency, and cell cycle regulation.
Experimental evidence accumulated in the recent years clearly supports the idea that dietary nutraceuticals such as curcumin have great potential as epigenetic agents.
These researchers go on to cite all of the human safety and efficacy trials with curcumin, resveratrol and many other natural substances.
This is not dietary supplement companies extolling the virtues of these powerful nutrients. These are mainstream drug development researchers, stunned by the ability of nutrients to regulate epigenetics to support health and at the same time combat diseases that plague large numbers of people. The inherent capacity of these nutrients outshines that of any drug.
There should be no question in anyone’s mind as to why the pharmaceutical industry wants to claim these powerful nutrients as patent-protected drug assets. The question is more about how they plan to pull off this major scheme, this heist, from the dietary supplement industry.
Curcumin (tumeric) has been around for thousands of years and is consumed in very large amounts in Eastern and Middle Eastern cultures. This means the basic spice is protected by DSHEA. Unfortunately, curcumin has relatively poor bioavailability and raw material companies have sought to produce purified extracts with advanced production technology and combine curcumin with other nutrients such as piperine, which can elevate the biological activity up to 2,000 percent. Researchers at MD Anderson Cancer Center have conducted cancer research specifically with one such curcumin product, made by Sabinsa, and found it very promising.
Under the proposed FDA guidelines for NDIs, such curcumin extracts would retroactively become NDIs as they were not available prior to 1994. The immediate impact would be the removal of curcumin from the dietary supplement market while submitting an NDI application. Sabinsa, however, has already been granted several investigational new drug applications for their curcumin complex as they work with researchers at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Under the new FDA guidelines the net result would be eliminating all high grade curcumin extracts from the dietary supplement market, as no NDI will be granted for any ingredient that is under investigation as a new drug. Sabinsa, a dietary supplement raw material supplier, will be able to sell its rights to its curcumin compound to the highest pharmaceutical bidder while all other competing curcumin extracts, including Sabinsa’s product, will be forced off the dietary supplement market.
It is a similar story for resveratrol, which is also under investigation as a new drug. In fact, numerous highly-effective and therapeutic extracts will be targeted in this way by the pharmaceutical industry. The FDA has a glaring conflict of interest and can easily approve investigational new drug applications for any nutrient of interest to the pharmaceutical cartel, automatically blocking them from entry or existence in a competitive dietary supplement marketplace. Dietary supplement companies could spend millions trying to get the FDA to pass a NDI application. The FDA just sits on the NDI application, to ultimately approve the nutrient as an investigational new drug and deny the dietary supplement company’s NDI application.
Consumer options for therapeutic nutrition will rapidly dwindle. What is left on the market will be far more expensive and many nutrients will no longer be available without prescription. Once the pharmaceutical industry gains control of the nutrient, the new price will be ten to fifty times what consumers pay now.
A Call for Consumer Action
The most important force capable of preventing skyrocketing prices and the elimination of therapeutic nutrition from the dietary supplement marketplace is you, the consumer. If you wait to act until the products actually begin to disappear, it could be too late. Act now and help preserve your right to a wide range of these powerful and valuable dietary supplement ingredients and products at affordable prices. Say NO to the FDA’s illegal strategy to help drug companies take over the dietary supplement industry. Go to the TAKE ACTION page and, please, let your voice be heard.
